Indirect Losses
Benefits for indirect losses compensate for the negative consequences of a worker’s disability, disease or death.
The indirect losses that must be covered under workers’ compensation are:
- Lost wages (disability income)
- Regular income for the injured worker to compensate for a disability preventing him or her to work at full capacity
- Equals a given percentage of the worker’s normal income when healthy
- Death benefits (survivor benefits)
- Funeral and burial expenses in the case of a worker’s death
- A weekly income for the spouse and children of a worker who has died
- Available to the children until age 18 and to the spouse until death or remarriage
