Other Federal Laws
In any case, the following four other federal laws have been passed by Congress in the interest of workers’ safety and compensation:
- Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA) — Passed in 1916, it provides workers’ compensation for civil servants employed by the federal government
- Defense Base Act — Passed in 1941, it provides workers’ compensation for civilians working for private companies and organizations on U.S. military bases overseas
- Occupational Safety & Health Act — Passed in 1970, it set comprehensive, nationwide standards for workplace safety
- Black Lung Compensation Act — Passed in 1973, it provides workers’ compensation for coal miners
