Almost all employees are covered by the Workers’ Compensation system and can claim benefits for workplace injuries or illnesses. However, according to Utah state law, a few types of employment are excluded from the Workers’ Compensation system:
- Some agricultural workers;
- Some casual or domestic workers;
- Some real estate and insurance brokers; and
- Sole proprietors, partners of a partnership, and members of limited liability companies.
While these types of workers are not required to be covered by the Workers’ Compensation system, their companies can elect to provide coverage for them.
